Sunergise solar installation on Parliament House, Wellington — SEANZ 2023 award winner

Recognising New Zealand's best grid-connected solar

Revolve Energy proudly sponsored the Best Grid-Connected PV System Award at Aotearoa New Zealand's premier sustainable energy event, SEANZ 2023 | Tomorrow's Energy Today.

The SEANZ Industry Awards recognise the best and most innovative solar energy projects and businesses in the country. The Awards event was the best-attended ever, reflecting the largest solar energy summit in New Zealand’s history — with a utility solar stream alongside the conventional commercial, industrial and residential focus.

Best Grid-Connected PV System

The Awards included Best Grid-Connected PV System, sponsored by Revolve Energy. The grid-connected renewable system must be connected to the national grid and include onsite renewable generation; it may also include energy storage and load control.

Winner: Sunergise, for the Parliament House project

This year’s winner was Sunergise for their Parliament House project in Wellington, which involved installing a 204-kilowatt grid-connected solar energy system to reduce load on the main switchboard, lower carbon emissions and promote renewable energy.

The project involved meticulous planning and adherence to safety and quality standards. Integration with the existing Building Management System and backup generators presented unique challenges, requiring collaboration with various stakeholders.

The selection of equipment — such as REC TwinPeak Black solar panels and SMA solar inverters — was carefully considered to blend with the heritage building's aesthetics and uphold ethical sourcing standards. The installation featured bespoke-designed timber plinths and weather-tight membranes, and the solar system design integrated seamlessly with backup generators, vital for Parliament's continuity during grid outages.

Installing a solar energy system at Parliament House sets a powerful precedent for sustainable energy in New Zealand. This complex project not only met heritage and safety requirements but also showcased the potential for renewable energy on a national scale, highlighting the significance of government-led solar installations in promoting a sustainable energy future.
